Snowflake Summit 2024 Replay: Day 3 | Builder and Partner Keynotes

We’re past the halfway mark, but Snowflake Summit didn’t lose any momentum on day 3. Sessions and events are still going strong, and today featured two keynote speeches - the Builder Keynote and the Partner Keynote. Throughout both, Snowflake has remained consistent, driving home two key points; its unwavering commitment to data privacy and security, and the drive to establish itself as the leading platform for AI/ML workloads.

Highlights

  • Snowconvert - A tool that automatically generates syntax for migrating data from legacy systems into Snowflake. Coming soon and 100% free.

  • Northstar Education Program - Free education through Coursera courses, hands-on labs, and in-person events to upskill on Snowflake. Available now.

  • Two New Advanced Snowflake Certifications - No dates yet, but it was mentioned that they are coming soon.

Builder Keynote

The Builder Keynote was presented through a skit following the journey of "Tasty Bytes," a fictional food truck company. During the skit, Tasty Bytes employees demonstrated how quickly and easily they could utilize Snowflake’s ML/AI capabilities to solve their business challenges.

The first challenge involved unlocking data stored in unstructured formats. Customer reviews written in multiple languages were transformed into tables, providing valuable metrics. The transformations, including language translation and sentiment analysis, were all accomplished with just a few lines of code.

The second challenge simulated a scenario where poor service at one food truck led to them going viral due to negative feedback on social media. While the team already had data on customers who made purchases during that time, they also wanted to reach out to other frequent customers who may have been affected by the news. Using the RelationalAI native application, they were able to quickly identify and compensate their customers to stop the bleeding and limit the impact of the bad service.

Guest appearances were made by Babak Bashiri (Director of Data Engineering at Vimeo) and Christian Figueroa (Head of Network Science and Behavioral Modeling at Cash App), who chimed in to discuss their strategies to tackle similar challenges at scale.

Partner Keynote

The Partner Keynote focused less on features and more on Snowflake’s sales strategy. However, a significant announcement was the upcoming general availability of the Snowconvert tool. This tool, which will be completely free, allows users to quickly and easily migrate data from legacy database systems into Snowflake by automatically generating the appropriate DDL syntax.

Wrapping it up

It seems that Snowflake saved most of its major announcements for the first two days, but today's reveal of the Snowconvert tool suggests they might have more surprises in store. Although there's only one day left of Summit 2024, it is an exciting one - Dev Day. Stay tuned to learn what Snowflake is saving for the final day!
